PDN PhotoPlus Debrief 1

What an absolutely crazy week it was, showcasing the orbis™ ringflash at PDN’s PhotoPlus show in NYC, getting interviewed by none other than John Harrington, stabbing myself in the rear-end, losing half a tooth and lots and lots of great conversations with orbis™ ring flash shooters present and future. I’ll cover it in a couple of posts, otherwise it’s going to be a looong old read. First up, the show and the strange tooth hiccup.

Day 1 Photoplus was, as is often the case, a little quiet as people get into the swing of things. A lot of people at the show on the first day take their time to walk the floor before it gets crowded on days 2 and 3. As I mentioned, I hooked up with the beautiful  Olivia Christine to model for me, who worked like a trooper throughout the show as I ran hundreds and hundreds of people through the easy orbis™ 1-2-3.

1- Get your flash to fire off-camera 2-Bring it up in front of the lens and 3- hit the shutter for beautiful, shadowless light anywhere, every time.

Anyway, there we were, Olivia and I, munching our way through the best tradeshow-hall food I’ve ever had (take note Photokina bratwurst vendors) when…

I had that funny feeling that all was not well in the dentistry department. Then, as we walked back to the stand, trying to politely remove what felt like a bit of nut or something that had lodged in my tooth, a big chunk of my tooth fell into my hand ! As if the pin incident wasn’t enough… here I was in the land of expensive healthcare needing emergency dentistry. Uh-oh. Thankfully it fairly quickly transpired that it could wait until my return to homely shores, as it didn’t seem to have exposed a nerve. But the timing left me wondering whether I’d stepped into a reality TV show featuring a string of small but painful incidents that un-hinges the star.
